Convert PNG to JPG

This tool converts PNG images to JPG, with a quality you set yourself. Two things change in the process: transparency disappears, because a JPG has no place to store it, and the file usually gets much smaller if the picture is photographic. Everything runs in your browser, and your image is never uploaded.

How it works

  1. 1 Choose a PNG file.
  2. 2 Set the quality if 90 is not what you want.
  3. 3 GRID16 converts the image to JPG in your browser.
  4. 4 Download the JPG.

Questions

What happens to transparent areas?
They become white. A JPG cannot store transparency, so the image is placed on a white background before it is encoded.
Which quality should I choose?
90 is the default and is hard to tell from the original. Below about 70 the compression blocks start to show, most visibly around text and sharp edges.
Will the file really get smaller?
For a photo, usually by a lot. For a screenshot or a flat graphic with text, a PNG is often both smaller and sharper, so it is worth comparing before you switch.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion happens in your browser; the file never leaves your device.
