Convert HEIC to WebP

This tool converts HEIC photos to WebP. WebP keeps files close to the size HEIC manages while being readable by every current browser, which makes it the better of the two on a web page. The conversion runs in your browser, and your photo is never uploaded.

HEIC, up to 50 MB

How it works

  1. 1 Choose a HEIC photo.
  2. 2 Set the quality if 90 is not what you want.
  3. 3 GRID16 converts the photo to WebP in your browser.
  4. 4 Download the WebP.

Questions

Why WebP instead of JPG?
Because it reaches the same quality in fewer bytes, and every browser in use today displays it. JPG is still the safer choice outside the browser, for print shops and older software.
Does the photo lose quality?
A little, as with any second lossy pass: the photo is decoded and encoded again. The default quality of 90 keeps that out of sight on a photograph.
Are transparent areas kept?
Yes, WebP stores transparency. A photograph from a phone camera rarely has any, but nothing is lost if it does.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion happens in your browser; the file never leaves your device.
