Convert AVIF to PNG
This tool writes an AVIF image into a PNG file, which is the format every program accepts and which keeps any transparency the picture carries. Expect a considerably larger file: AVIF is built to be small and PNG is built to be exact. The conversion runs in your browser, and your image is never uploaded.

AVIF, up to 50 MB
How it works
- 1 Choose an AVIF file.
- 2 GRID16 writes the image as a PNG in your browser.
- 3 Download the PNG.
Questions
- Does transparency survive?
- Yes. Both formats store an alpha channel, so a transparent area stays transparent.
- Why is there no quality setting?
- PNG does not get smaller by discarding detail, so there is nothing to choose here.
- Why is the PNG so much larger?
- AVIF is among the most efficient formats there is, and PNG stores pixels losslessly. The same picture therefore needs many more bytes, sometimes several times as many.
- Is my image uploaded to a server?
- No. The conversion happens in your browser; the file never leaves your device.
