Trim an audio file
This tool keeps one section of an MP3 or M4A file and saves it as an MP3, in your browser. Play the file on the page and set the start and end, by typing the times or taking the player's current position. An MP3 is cut without re-encoding: its frames are copied as they are, so the section keeps the exact quality of the source, but because frames are copied instead of re-encoded, the cut lands on frame edges, so the section can start and end a fraction of a second outside the time you chose, and the range is only ever widened, never narrowed, so nothing you selected is lost. An M4A is decoded and re-encoded as MP3 at 320 kbps. The file is never uploaded, and if your browser cannot decode an M4A's audio, GRID16 says so instead of producing a broken file. This keeps one continuous section: there are no fades, no waveform editor, and no way to cut out a middle part and keep both ends.

An M4A is decoded and re-encoded, so its cut lands very close to where you set it: re-encoding adds a tiny delay at the edges.
