Extract a TAR.GZ archive
This tool opens a .tar.gz archive, the format source releases, server backups and Linux downloads usually come in, and hands you the files that were inside it. Download one at a time, or all of them together as a ZIP. Choose one archive, up to 50 MB, that unpacks to at most 100 MB and 500 files. Everything happens in your browser, so the archive is never uploaded.

TAR.GZ, up to 50 MB
How it works
- 1 Choose the .tar.gz archive to extract.
- 2 GRID16 reads its contents in your browser.
- 3 Download a file, or all of them as a ZIP.
Questions
- Does this also open a .tgz file?
- Yes. A .tgz is the same archive under a shorter name, and this tool reads it exactly the same way.
- The folders inside are kept?
- Yes. Every file keeps the path it had inside the archive, so you can see which folder it came from, and downloading all of them as a ZIP puts that structure back.
- My file is a .gz, but not a .tar.gz. Does that work?
- No. A plain .gz holds a single compressed file rather than an archive of several, and this tool refuses it with a message that says so. Both start with the same bytes, which is why the file is only judged once it is opened.
- What are the limits?
- One archive at a time, up to 50 MB, that unpacks to at most 100 MB and 500 files.
- Is my archive uploaded?
- No. It is read in your browser, so it never leaves your device.
